A final Day in Wellington

The sun was shining brightly as we said goodbye to our new friends and family in Paraparaumu and set off for some sightseeing in Wellington!

First, some emotional goodbyes!

Then some culture at the seat of power in Wellington, at the parliamentary building, The Beehive!

Next, a trip to Mount Victoria for wonderful views over the city!

And we even managed to fit in a trip to the beach!

Finally it was time to get on the plane for the long journey back to Japan, and a final group photo with Okada, our ISA guide!

Sayonara Party!

Last Friday all students took part in a farewell party with their friends and host families!

We did an ‘Oendan’ performance and a traditional Bon dance.

All students gave an amazing speech in English at the end of the night and we could see how much we have all learned in just one week!

Final Day at School

Today was the final day for our students to go to school. First we had our last English class with Debbie.

Then it was time for more lessons with buddies and some relaxing walks around the beautiful groups of Paraparaumu college.

And then it was time to prepare for the Sayonara party… That story will have to wait until tomorrow!

Goodnight!

A day trip to Wellington

Today was a chance for the Tosa students to enjoy sightseeing in Wellington with their new Paraparaumu College buddies! They split up into groups and had a great time exploring the city.

At the end of the day, everyone arrived back on the train tired but happy!

Tasting Challenge and Jewlery Making

Today was a special day as there were no official classes. As a result, Tosa students had a unique program.

First up was a local food tasting experience. Students had to try many Nee Zealand specialities and rank them. Some were delicious… others, well not so delicious!

The next activity was pewter necklace craft making. It was quite a challenge but students did their best and made something unique and precious!

Tomorrow is a trip to Wellington with buddies! It’s going to be fun!

Japanese Class and Māori Culture

Today’s two main tasks were to tach year nine (中2) Japanese and then to join a Māori ceremony of welcome and learn about the unique Māori culture.

The Japanese lesson was great fun. Our students realized just how difficult it is to teach languages to 13 and 14 yr olds! They did a great job and everyone enjoyed the classes!

The Māori lesson began with the ceremony of the Powhiri, a welcome song and dance especially for us. Then there was a chance for our students to relax and take part in traditional Māori games!
